Week One : Starting the Engine

Further instructions from lecturers have been given to us. We will split into two groups to focus on two different segments of the project. Kendrick and ChengWei will be focusing on the safe proofing of the drone. The drone has two types of safe proofing. First being caging and second being a drone parachute. We have chosen to do research and makling of a drone parachute for safe proofing. YuQin and Ryan will be focusing on a function to improve the drone to fit the objective of our research. They will be coding and researching on how to use and implement an infrared sensor onto a drone to sense distance and obstacles.

Kendrick and ChengWei : Safe proofing. Initial design as well as concept. Usual drone parachute being activated by using servomotors. Therefore, we have decided to change to usual drone parachute to it being used by electromagnets instead.
First design includes a magnet connected to two switches and the cap of the parachute. When the electricity stops going into the metal, it will be demagnetised and the cap of the parachute holder will come off allowing the parachute to be opened.Second design includes a magnet a spring and a cap. When the electromagnet is magnetised, it will attract the magnet on the cap and keep the cap onto the parachute. When the power is cut, it will lose its electromagnetism and the parachute will be ejected into action.
